I have a 72, 2000cc, 2V, automatic. I want to repaint the timing belt cover, valve cover, air cleaner etc. My question is, how to remove the timing belt cover. It seems as if I need to remove the pulley that is attached directly to the crankshaft. I am hoping that I am wrong. Can someone tell me if there are other parts that have to be removed before the timing belt cover can be removed or can I just take it straight off. Thanks. jt
no need to remove the pulley. it should come off easy. just 3-4 bolts. and it should just slide up and out. turn counter clock wise when lifting up and out.
Sounds like it's the same or similar as the procedure to remove the cover on the 2.3
FYI, on the 2000cc, 1972 engine, you need to remove the main drive pulley from the crank, radiator hose, etc. in order to get the cover off the timing belt. Its a huge pain. I have abandoned the idea of removing it to paint it. jt
done this many times without removing anything to get it off! i also have a '72 2000 in my '73.
3 small bolts and lift up to the left (counterclockwise) and out. it you do take it out try to get your hands on some new rubber grommets that the shoulder bolts go thru.
no pulleys or hoses or belts to remove it like Pintoman1 has said.
GOT IT! Rotating it clockwise is the trick. Thank you folks for helping me out. jt :D
