Question for you Pinto history experts. What was the last production( month )of the Pinto in 1980? ???
Can't give you and exact answer, but I did document one in 2000 that had a door tag date of 06/80. It was a Metuchen car. Had to be close to the end.
Model years typically ran from the 1st of September the year before to the last day of August of that model year, however when production of a model is ceased it is common to see the last month of a particular model be before or after that based on parts on hand. I'm not certain about the Pinto, but the VW air cooled Beetle was last produced in Germany as a '79 model but built until May 1980. My '80 Pinto wagon was built in February 80 so that's no help, sorry. My current Beetle is a '71 but was built in Sept of '70.
So I went looking for the answer, Wikipedia, although informative, and How it works.com both offer alot of information, but don't say whether it made it to the end of the model year, only that just over 185,000 1980's were made with just under 40,000 being wagons-the lowest production number of wagons in it's history. I'll keep looking, and if I find the answer, I will share. Thanks for the stumper!
My Postal Pinto was built in June, 1980. I don't think they made them much past that.
Thanks I have run into the same thing. I can't find a last produced car month/date for 1980 Pinto. Still waiting on Marti Reports to become avalible for 1980, they were suppuse to be out anytime according to there Web Site.......Kirk
It is very possible that you're right and it didn't make it through the summer. After Lee Iacocca's dismissal from Ford in 1978 the writing was on the wall and they may have cut parts production short and simply discontinued when there weren't enough parts to build any more. This has turned up some useless trivia though, in all of my years of reading and researching, I didnt know that there were 22,000 1978 Pintos sold as 1977 models.
