Title: Rear end alternatives for 71-73 turbo swaps?
Post by: MikeSVO on May 24, 2005, 06:56:17 AM
I've been having a hard time finding an 8" rear.  I know that it is THE best one to get, but I was wondering about a couple others.  I also was thinking about putting some 5-lug Mustang SVO rims on my 71, since I saw a pic of them on an early car and thought they looked really good.  I figure these two topics might go hand in hand a little.

I was thinking that the extra deep offset of the SVO heels would let me run a wider rear, like maybe something from a Ranger.  I haven't put a tape measure to the parts I have yet, but I'm wondering how much width I could get away with using those wheels.

Another rear option I was thinking about was the Toyota 12-bolt, I think it's called.  It's constructed the same way an 8" or 9" is, and they were used in smaller cars too.  My neighbor has an 81 Corolla that has such a rear in it.  I've seen them used in some drag car because they are pretty stable under a light car, I guess...

Of course, I'm more worried about the rear than the SVO wheels fitting.  I just happened to have the SVO wheels kicking around.  I'll probably end up with Draglites or something similar.

If anyone has other options, I'd love to hear them.  Thanks!

You can do a search on this sight for (rear end) and it will bring up a lot of options that have been done.
That is what I did.
