Hello:
My lock cylinder on the steering column of my 1977 Pinto Cruise Wagon failed today. To be able to remove it and install the new cylinder I have to remove the steering wheel. The original steering wheel is the sports type with three metal spokes and a plastic center hub with the little horse in the middle of it. I need to remove this plastic center hub so I can get to the steering wheel attaching nut. My question is, how do you remove this plastic center hub without breaking it? What is the trick in removing this plastic piece?
Thanks

Hey 77pintocw,
Grab the plastic piece in the center like a BIG pickel jar lid and just pull up.
The center piece is held in place with two wire thingys.

WTH? Is that a prehistoric steering wheel mounted radio remote control?
Beats the heck out of your AM radio!!!!!!
Actually it is mounted there by a magnet so I don't lose it.
Operates my Alpine head unit and the 6 disk changer.

Hey Pintony:
Yep, the plastic hub popped right out. In fact your picture was right on even down
to the white/tan tape on one of the wires. Removed the nut and used my steering
wheel puller and the steering wheel came right off. Now to the hard part. I will post
it as another topic.
Thanks for the help! :)
