Title: leaf springs for a v8 swap
Post by: gearhead440 on May 23, 2005, 10:56:31 AM
When swapping in a 302 V8 and 9" rear, do the rear leaf springs need to be changed, or are the stock one adequate?  Thanks!

I had a custom set built, I used Mustang II South Side Machine Lift bars, a 65 Mustang GT 9 inch (identical swap in same OD as factory) I needed to shorten the lift bars by an inch and a half I think it has been a while. But I had a company in Warren Ohio Warren Spring build me a custom set of springs he made the same width and height of the factory pinto BUT he changed the ID of the eyelets to that of an early mustang I used Poly Urethane mustang bushings, and we made the spring rate the same as a Hipo mustang I have not driven it yet but it sits nice and should be perfect, currently the axle is out because the chassis is getting worked on but the guy who built these really knows his stuff! 330-392-7096 He did this about a year and a half ago but a great guy!

I have found a set at JC Whitney for $60.00 per spring.  They have 4 leaf and 5 leaf (station wagon) springs listed for the same price.  As I am purchasing them anyway, should I purchase the 5 leaf ones for use with a 351w/ 5 speed/ 9" rear end combo? Thanks!

Hello  gearhead440.
The Pinto wagon springs are too long for the sedan.

Thanks for the info, Pintony.  I guess that it will be 4 leafs then.  BTW do you happen to have a picture of either of your Lime Green Pintos that you could post or send me?  I am considering a new paint scheme for my 80 pinto in the Mopar Sub Lime Green / Lime Light hue and would appreciate any pics you may have.  The only reference I have is that my cousin had a sub lime green 74 in the early 80's that I only have the memories and not any photos.  Thanks for all the assistance.
