I was wondering how hard it is to switch an all glass hatch back to a standard style one? Someone told me they are completely different so I'm just checking on if it is possible and what all is involved. Thanks!
Not hard, you just need to take off the glass hatch and hinges as well as the weatherstripping and the two fiberglass trim pieces over the tail lights. Then bolt on the metal hatch and hinges and install the metal hatch weatherstripping. I believe the latch is the same.
Thanks for the response Tigger. So the fiberglass trim pieces are just not used then and there are no replacements from a standard hatch car? Also do the hinges for both bolt in the same place? Sorry for all the questions, I just thought I saw on here where this was a bit of an involved process with a lot of parts in the rear having to be taken off. Thanks again!
You are correct, the fiberglass pieces are not used. The hinges do bolt in the same place but they are not the same. Let me know if you have any more questions.....
Waldo,
Will you be selling the weatherstripping and fiberglass? I have two glass hatches, but only one weatherstrip and one fiberglass piece. Would be interested in buying them off of ya if they are in good/useable condition.
Thanks!
-Steve
Hey Steve, these are on a car I am looking into buying. I prefer the standard hatches so if I took it off it would certainly be something I'd be willing to sell. Not sure what is going to happen, but I will keep you updated.
