I was just wondering what kind of emmissions stuff is on my 74 canadian built bobcat. Also, could any of this stuff be thrown in the garbage for a little more hp and/or throttle response. And is this legal?
Since I'm not from Canada I'm not 100% sure, but it probably would have a catalytic converter, smog pump & egr valve... As for getting rid of the emission crap, some say it will improve power & performance, but if it's anything like here in the states it is illegal to remove that stuff.
Good luck
Do you know where they are and how you can remove them? I just checked, and I don't have a catalytic converter on my car.
If you don't have a converter on your car then you're in good shape. Also odds are if you don't have a converter, then you probably don't have a smog pump on there either. The smog pump on the 2.3 is usually located around the upper right hand section of the engine, but don't know about your car, as I don't know what engine you have. It's got lines running to it & has a belt running it.
Hope this helps you some.
Well I've got a 1980 Canadian built Pinto, and I had two seperate catalytic converters, AIR pump, EGR and such...
But on my 2.3 the AIR pump was on the exhaust side, up above the AC Compressor if you have it.
I plan on doing the same thing for a little extra HP. Delete the EGR, AIR pump, and Cats. It may be illegal, but I don't have to worry about emissions testing back home so it works.
Thanks everyone, I have a 2.0 in my car. I guess I don't have a smog pump since the only belts are the ones for the timing belt and alternator.
