1992 Mercury Mystique/Topaz looking thing was the donor for the engine, "Building car for my son and don't want him to have a turbo".... not yet anyway....
72 Pinto wagon has an automatic, Any idea where I can get an adapter plate so that 2.3 will bolt up to stock auto?
Also I know I am going to need some expert help installing wiring harnass, computer, etc.
Do I need a new fuel tank or can I add a fuel pump into the pinto's tank to run the EFI?
I'd appreciate all the help I can get on this project and would be happy to post pics of the work in progress if anyone cares to see it.
Oh yeah, right now I am in need of a new flywheel, that is assumiong I will be able to use the original tranny...
Thanks, James
I have never heard of anybody puting a 2.3 HSC in a rear wheel drive car, don't know if it can be done. If it can be done you may be the first. If you had a 2.3 from a Ford Ranger it would be much easer to do since it was the same engine used in the Pinto.
yup, the 2.3 high swirl is a TOTALLY different beast than our 2.3's and will not fit in any way shape or form! Send it back from whence it came. You need a Lima 2.3 from a rear wheel drive car.
The HSC has NO aftermarket support whatsoever! Get a 2.3 over head cam motor. You can find them everywhere, in everything. Cheap!
OK, I'm convinced, Fact is I've already changed my mind on how I am going to go about this,.... the hard way!
Keep a watch out in the upcoming year or so for updates on my world first FWD pinto wagon. (course, I'm working on a set of mathcihg "51" 5 window Chevy pickups too right now...)
I'm gutting out the mystique and gonna do some major fabrication and alteration on the 72. Mostly,... I just want to prove that it can be done and that it can be done right! Maybe I'll die trying?
