Post by: stonepony on May 14, 2005, 09:13:18 PM
I got my motor and tranny in .The harness is a 88 tc can anybody tell me what connections I need to start and run other than the normal  dist. coil. etc. What about fuel pump relays and the inertia switch. So far all I got plugged in is 02 sensor- tpi- injectors-and the vam. Any help would be greatly appreatiated
thanks

I used the "I" post on the starter solenoid for the start wire in the harness, I also found only one wire in my '74 harness under the dash that turned on with the key and stayed on while cranking, I also left off the inertia switch but that may have been a bad idea, and the 88 harness used the control relay box to activate the fuel pump and fans which I also bypassed and used my own relay in favor of getting rid of that bulky box. I disconnected the speed sensor in to use my speedo. Keep it simple, Start at the ECM plug and remove unnecessary wires from the harness as there's is a lot of crap in that harness for the cruise control, electronic suspension ect.

Thanks Cheapracer I am using the a4ld  because my wife wants a auto so i need the speed sensor. I have 2 c4's for my mustang race car but no 2,3 bell housing. So what you are saying is I dont need the controler if I dont use any factory relays that would get rid of alot of wires. Which one is the start wire in the 88tc harness.
thanks

I believe it's the start wire in the TFI module. I'll have to dig in my notes and see. No, you don't need the controller but you will have to wire in your own relays somewhere else. I use a separate relay for the fuel pump and power system for the fan after having my old '84 SVO at the dealer for warranty twice and them telling me there's no problem while my engine would boil over and no fan running, so I don't trust the stock system.  Just removing the electric fan and a/c clutch wiring is a major improvement. Good luck.

Look at my repies in "carbed turbo" in this section, and my "new member here" in the pinto talk section. From what I remember, all the fuse licks, and grounds. The blue/white wire powers the comp. and I hooked it to the cdi box connector. The fuel pump relay/safety harness is long enough to reach the rear, just lengthen the wires to the pump itself. I have my cooling fans on a manual switch for now, but will install a aftermarket one soon. As far as the tranny, I have the stock c3 for now, but my donor was an 86 t/c with a t-5. The best thing I can tell you is to get a wiring schm. form both cars and map it all out. I used the alt. harness from the pinto, and not much of the engine harness from the t/c.

And a note to everyone, grounds are everything on an EFI. Add a few just to be on the safe side.
