1.) What size rear, and gears are in a 71 Pinto coupe 4 spd.?
2.) Will the 4 spd. & bellhousing from a 71 Pinto 2.0 bolt up to a Turbo 2.3 out of a 89 Merkur?
3.) Will the rear rollpan & bumper measure the same if I cut my 80's out, and weld in the 71's?
I was wondering if the rear fenders mold in the same way, or will I have to mold or shape anything to match it up?
I'm ripping the 71 coupe's rear section off, and welding it up to convert my 80 wagon into a 71 Turbo wagon.
Any help on the above will help. I'm picking the 71 up Friday which I got for $50 without title. I also heard that a 4 spd. is faster than a 5 spd. because the turbo is pulling boost longer.
Thanks guys!

(1) the rearend is a 7.5 inch, not the best hi-po setup. The gear ratios vary, somewhere there's a decoder for the door tag.
(2)The 2.0 bell won't DIRECTLY bolt up, but there are "offset dowels" & the option of cutting the dowels down in a lathe.
(3) If you pull the 80 bumper off you SHOULD be able to drill the bolt holes & install the early WAGON roll pans with no other mods on the back. The coupe roll pans won't fit, I don't think. There's some debate as to wether the early sheetmetal will fit the newer bodies. I'm of a mind that it will no problems.
As for the 4spd VS 5spd you might want to consult www.turboford.org there's a WEALTH of 2.3 turbo knowledge there.
A 5 speed is a 4 speed with one extra gear for an overdrive.
the rear end is a 6.75 i believe......even worse than a 7.5

I wouldn't be so sure of that, ford does offer 2 that 5th is 1:1

That fits a Pinto?
Anything is possible with a mill and a lathe.
Don't forget the hammer.

Make that a BAMFHammer!!... got one of those... needed it to cram a 5.0 into a '74 Stang II. Talk about cramming 10gal of crap in a 5gal bucket!
