Title: Is it worth it
Post by: NickfromPA on May 08, 2005, 09:18:20 PM
Hey everyone i stumbled upon a 76 pinto today at a auto auction/car dealer. The car has 74k on it. Interior is super condition. The exterior has a few very small spots of surface rust starting but nohting a few hrs of sanding can't fit. Only problem I found was the bottom skin of the passenger door was bondo'd and its pretty flimsy. But other then that the chrome was real ncie and no other bondo. The underside was very clean with almost no rust. The guy wants 1499 for it. I don;t know much about pintos. Is this a good price or could i get him down a lot. I really would like the car. Let me know ur opinions. Thanks

The question is, Is it worth it to you? I saw a Pacer sell on ebay for over 5 grand, to me it's worth 500. Low miles, low rust, great milage, someone will but it.

I agree with pintony.  I just bought a 1975 pinto with 66,000 miles on it for $500.  This pinto looks like its new.  BUT it does have a big dent in the driver side door.  I would try to talk this guy down to a reasonable price.

Rust is a big deal to me...
If I see rust on the outer body "Where you can see it."
There must be more than its fair share of rust on the underbody-trunk that you can't see.
Rusty Pintos make great parts cars.
What would you pay for a parts car?????

1500? Well, I have to agree with the crew, to much. I can see if the car had no rust and the door wasn't in bad shape. Plus, its kind of a bad year for the Pintos (they weighed the most that year, 200 lbs more than 1980) but due to the interior quality, it does not sound like a bad car. Im in california so the rust thing is kind of odd to me. Bad rust to me might be different than bad rust to someone in the states that like to dissolve cars. If you like that year and are going to repair the door and rust, it would be a good investment. I would say 800 max, for the interior, mileage and general body shape. In cali, pinto prices are starting to sky rocket, so thats a good price to me.

Hey Pintopower,
I agree if the Pinto was a Calif. car your price of 800.00 sound good.
Being a STRANGER as you say to rust. You have a good grasp on it.
DESSOLVE is the best description I've heard about a few of the pintos I have seen.
Rust holes above the body line big enough to put a size 10 shoe through.
There was a Pinto on a car lot in St.Louis a few years back.
Was repainted by MACCO. Looked good to the average eye.
No under hood skin
No metal on the doors below the vinal door pannel.
The core support was almost non-existant.
Holes in the body that Macco had put BIG pieces of cardboard behind and filled with putty.
The lot found some sucker to buy it.
The owner aproached me at an all Ford show that I go to every year.
Wanting to buy parts. I just said NO and walked away.
He wanted to buy an NOS steering wheel. for that P.O.S. >:(
The guy stood there telling me that the car was all original.
Of course it had to be the 1 time in 10 years that I did not have one of my Pinto's at the show.
I brought my 1973 Econoline van. That show is at the high-point of the summer heat and humudity.
and my Econo has A/C.
My first Pinto was a 73 it was only 8 years old when I got it from my mom.
was already rusted to the door handels.
Midwest Salt and Humidity sucks!!!!!!!!
Read my bio. All Ca. cars.
