well was working on my 78 bobcat and noticed the front pads where wasted and chewed up my rotor, no big deal!! right?
well ordered new rotor to replace the torn up one, looked the same bolted on, but the nut had to be super tight and the rotor will not spin, loosen up and it turns like the wheel bearings are gone, so after looking at them, the new rotor is about 1/4 taller then the old one, taller from the back of the rotor to the outside of the hub, same bolt pattern and rotor size, 11" but it will not work, is there two different rotors for the 74-80 pinto, i know im working on a bobcat but they are the same?!?!
any help will be great, after looking some more the wheel would also stick out further as well.
thanks
eric
74-80 are the same rotors. Looks like you got the wrong ones.
what is really confusing is the bolt pattern are the same, and i looked ot other post and saw the same one that i have (that does not fit) that was treated for 2000' that was for a 76, i wonder if its for a mustang ii, or are they the same too!!
thanks
eric
Mustang II should be the same. You more that likley got a rotor for a 79+ Mustang fox body. They have the same bolt pattern , but they are larger rotors.
well after further to do, i have 71-73 front brake rotors on a 78 bobcat, so someone has put 71-72 spindals on this car, cant figure out why, and finding the rotors has been a bear!! any help will be great
thanks
eric
Auto Krafters lists early rotors, but they are much more expensive they the later ones.$139.95 each to be exact. It may be better to get spindles and related hardware from Fred Morgan and put what should be on your car if you truely have early spindles and rotors. The calipers ar most likey different too, but I am not sure.
ya i am amazed on how hard and exspensive these rotors are, this is nuts, if anyone has a used or new one they are willing to sell plz let me know!
thanks
eric
looked up the cailpers and they are different, but the ones i have are! 74-80.
this car is driving me nuts! so on to more looking, trying to find a answer on what to do!!
thanks
eric
are you sure the parts store ,or where ever you got them, got you the right ones?
did the new rotors come with bearing races installed?
yes they were boxed right, the new ones are 74-80, some one before me must have installed 71-73 spindals have no idea why though. the 74-80 have a little lip about a 1/4 from the hub. the 71-73 hub is the same size all the way down.
and after taking both new and old to the parts store the 74-80 height is 3.91, the ones on a 71-73 are 3.79, just under a 1/4 difference.
so if anyone has a 71-73 rotor used or new that is in working order plz let me know im looking can get new from store, special order and can take up to 1month to get.
thanks
eric
Try Rockauto.com they are pricey at 121.00 but they have them in stock...Same part number for 1.6 and 2.0....Or you can try EBay and get some after market ones. Also try speedway motors they might have some. You can give RacerWalsh a call (there on line cat has not been updated). Also have you tried Autozone or O'reilly's on line or hell even Amazon.com?
I have a pair with new inner bearings (they only have 700 miles on them) for $80.00 + shipping from pa.
