Hi folks,
New to the forum - my first car was a red Pinto sedan back in 1982. I'm on a scavenger hunt to try and figure out all the particulars; I don't have any documentation (was registered to parents), and no pictures! Anyway, I think it had a red interior. Is that possible, or is my memory wrong? If it is possible, what year? I found a neat reference at paintref.com, but couldn't validate either way.
The end goal? Find it and resurrect it!
Thanks,
Dennis

Red Pinto's often had a red interior but I have also seen black and light brown. It's my thought that black and light brown were earlier cars (71-73) and was the later models that had red on red. Pintos were available 1971 thru 1980 and based on a red on red I would guess 77 and newer but in truth could be any year.
My 1980 Pinto (built September 1979) was originally red-on-red, so short answer is yes, they did make factory cars with red interior LOL.
My 1980 Squire has the red interior with the dark Cordovan paint. My mom had a white 1980 sedan also with the red interior.
My sedan was silver with a red interior stock. I love the shade of red they used.
Wow, you guys are great - thanks for the responses. I'm pretty sure mine was before the facelift in '77; I'm just glad to hear I'm not going senile. If I could just find some pictures... the '72 color selector posted here doesn't list red interior as an option, so I'm pretty sure I'm later than that.
Thanks,
Dennis
I haven't seen any other year of Pintos with the red interior other than 79 & 80 model year cars.
I have a 77 cruising wagon, red on red... was originally anyhow, previous owner did some mucked up stuff to it but I have a complete red interior to put back
found a picture from the 76 dealer brochure with a bright red squire wagon with red interior
CB, thanks for that find; I looked right past that last time. looks like it wasn't available for the sedan, though, which is fine, because my aunt has weighed in and thought it was a black interior! I think my old brain is mixing the interiors of the Pinto and the '66 Dodge Coronet I drove as my second car (white, definitely with red interior).
So, not to waste the discussion - in a restomod (gotta find a car first): red on red? Anyone?
I'd say go for it. That's how my car will probably turn out when/if I finally paint it. I'm not a big fan of silver cars so it won't be the original color.
