Well it made it 30 years with no cracking. Now the hairline crack that started 5 years ago has progressed and I need to do something about it. Are all caps created equal? Where should I buy it? What should I pay?
Thank you
Bill
I got the dash caps for both my 78 and my 73 (same style cap) from 1A Auto. I don't remember if they do color matching, but these guys on ebay claim to:

1A Auto charges around $100 for them, but the one on my 78 Sedan turned out great and I decided to go with a dealer that I knew supplied a personally known good product.

I looks like they recommend SEM brand vinyl paint to recolor the cap. I have used SEM vinyl paint in both my cars and it's great long lasting non-fading durable paint! A bit expensive in a spray can (around $15 a can here in Idaho), but I find it well worth it as far as quality.
Hey joebob:
The other route you can go is to get your original dash cap restored.
I went this way and used "Just Dashes" and they did a great job. They
use your original dash and restore it to better than OEM condition.
However, they are EXPENSIVE and the wait time is LONG. However,
I wanted it done right and glad I went this way. Here is the link:
