Title: Push Button trunk release
Post by: pintolovr on January 12, 2012, 07:19:55 PM
Does anyone know if they made, or what will work for a tailgate release on a wagon? I think it would be so nice to just push a button and have the gate open like on so many other vehicles.

My first thought, having owned a wagon, is to ensure that not only does the lock get actuated, but also a spring or something to push the liftgate away from the striker. Beat I recall, just like on a Runabout, you can turn the key, but you then have to pull it open. Now, on a sedan, totally different story, that deck lid will whack you!

Trunk popper seems simple to me. Install the same setup you would use for a door. Solenoid plunger to pull the latch open and a spring loaded door popper to push it open. Im sure you could get it pretty cheap if you looked around on the net.

That's true about the sedans!  I got whacked by the trunk lid on my '72 the first time I opened it!!!

The wagon has a spring that helps to open it past the latch point. You still have to lift the lid.

Thanks for the heads up on being attacked or whacked by the trunk lid. Dwayne. I'll be opening mine for the first time here in about two more weeks.

Don't they make actuators that could just open the hatch as well. Now that would be cool.
