In addition to my future 500ci stroked 460ci 76 wagon promod, I am also building a 454ci stroked 351w 76 wagon that will be get almost exactly the same treatments and goodies as my promod. But I am having a hard time finding info and resources that deal with such an extreem stroke job. I can find "receipes" for smaller 351 strokers, but nothing larger than 420ci. Can anyone sugesst anywhere to look or mabey another "receipe" that large that is race worthy?
For the 454...you need an aftermarket block, Sportsman, Dart, ect. That takes the block to its limit! Your best bet is to go with a stroker 408 or 427, they can be done with the stock block. I believe the 427 is the limit for the stocker and leaves the walls thin....so naturally asperated only no boost. Someone also does a 418 also but i can't remember who. Afriend of mine had a 408 in his mustang, with two stages of nitrous, ran a best of 8.30 in the quarter with a factory block! It only lasted one season and ripped all the main bearing webs out.
I do know that I can use the aluminum block with iron sleaves from Ford Racing to stroke it that big. so my problem is not with finding a block but with the rotating assembly. I know that Eagle has some H rods that should work but the crank is a mystery
have you looked at Scat cranks? I will look into it further and let you know. As far as an aluminum block, i don't know how big you can go on those. The steel blocks (aftermarket) CAN go to 454.
both Bennet and DSS have stroker kits to 427 bennettracing.com and dssracing.com Good luck to you!
Here's a website for a company out of california, www.speedomotive.com//. They've got stroker kits (full rotating assemblies) for 372, 383, 393, 408, 418, 426, 427, 435ci. As well as 302, 390,460,(etc) assemblies, nitrous and blower stroker kits. It is really convient. They even have kits for any of you chevy or mopar fans. Check it out it's sweet!!!
Once I have the crank the hardest part is notching the bottom of the cylinder walls for crank clearance. The pistons won't come down far enough for it to be a problem, with the right rods of course. as far as the Bore size the Ford racing aluminuim 351 block with siamese cylinders can have a bore of up to 1.25 over.
as far as the book that i have its a high performance ford 221 to 460 engine parts interchange book it says that if u have a steel crank part number M-6303-A454 u can stroke the 351w out to it but its best if u get a very old 351w with more metal on it versus 1975 and newer cuz it will most likely pop or break if u guys need any more info u can ask me thru AIM - stangbuff72 :)
