This question is for those who have already done it or know the answer. I'm looking at the website of a local wrecking yard for a 8.8 rear. the the parts locator function gives the choice for a V8 or V6 application. is one preferable over the other ? does it make a difference ?
Don.
just look for a 4x4 explorer and get 2 short side axles...the 4x4 will be track lock 31 spline with either 373 or 410 gears
I got that part, but does it make a difference if it came out of a V6 or V8 vehicle ?
Nope no difference.
very good, my local yard has these for $250.00 complete. this is nothing short of an awesome buy...
you can via the code determine the gear ratio and if it's a posi unit....but you probably know this...
Yep, but thanks for the info. I'm allways open for good advise and more knowledge...
I can get these for $100! Hoping to do one myself over the winter for my car!
wow, thats awesome, you can't beat that. I would say buy me one but I think the shipping would more than eat up any savings ;D
how wide do they end up if you do the 2 short side axle tubes and axles? I guess I should also ask how wide a stock rear...
the width ends up being 56.125" or .875 narrower than a stock pinto rear...
does the explorer rear have drums, what year because im looking at getting a rear end too
