I've been looking at the after market petronix ignition systems. Can you tell me the pros or cons? 2.0 or 2.3
I like the pertronix modules. I have had one in my 67 Mustang coupe for over 17 years with no issues. My friend installed one in his 72 2.0L hatch and liked it as well. It supposedly ran tons better. If you have a 2.3L you might look into the factory electronic ignition as well.
I'm looking at the Pertronix for my 2.0L but I won't waste the money on it until I get the engine in & fire it up with the points first. If the engine runs well then I'll spring for the Pertronix.
I have MSD 6AL boxes & MSD distribitors for both my 2300's but the Ford electronic is a good system on a budget although I only spent $160 on a lightly used MSD box & distributor on craigslist & $185 shipped for the other set off Ebay. There are deals out there if you look.
Thanks for the info. Petro ignition for the 2.0 and time to shop around the net for some MSD stuff. Do you have to do any tuning after installation of the petro in the 2.0? Any special does or dont's when installing?
Again,
Thanks
Are you doing a high power build up of your engine ? If not do not waste your money ,the Pertronx unit is a stand alone that works, no need to spend money on the MSD stuff....Even the stock Ford EFI ignition systems are usually pretty good (except for some TFI's which get hot).....
I have the Pertronx on my 73 2.0L, one thing to keep in mind Ford used 2 different types of Distributors on the 2 liter, need to know which one you have or you'll be modding a brand new Pertronx unit to make it work
Pertronix...the easiest way to go. Used them a lot in my sandrails with no problems.
This thread got me checking ignition options for my 2.0L & other than Pertronix ($79) & Mallory Unilite ($279) there are no options for the 2.0L out there. Then this NOS Joe Hunt Vertex Magneto popped up on Ebay for $200 so I bought it. Eventually this engine will end up in one of my woodsbuggies so I figured this was the perfect solution to my dilemma.
