he is the guy who put a lawsuit against the ford motor company for the pinto that killed 3 women.
Too bad he didn't win. Ford knew that gas tank location, and the filler neck being held in by a rubber o-ring, was really stupid. The gas tank being the trunk floor in a 64/77 Mustang was no better. No wonder people like Nader are around. Ford gave them plenty of material to work with. But hey!!!! Ford did save 3 cents on every Pinto made. Pennys count. Bet the wheels at Ford didn't ride to work in a Pinto back then.
I agree, the back of my 68 stang was more of a concern than my pinto (with the "recall"). I also think side impacts are more to worry about in any car.
Poor drivers are more of a problem than any one kind of car. Someone was driving that van, or did the driver of the pinto do something to cause that? (never saw that one before, and I don't know the details)
If car makers had to make "100% safe" cars, we would be walking. There is NO way for them to test for EVERY impact a car might take, and most impacts are frontal. A tenth of a deree, or half a MPH, here or there, can make a big difference.
Don't want to start any fights here, just my $.02.

Look at the car that is in that picture on that link. Any car that is hit that hard might catch fire.
