here is a pic taken today of my wagon and a customer's 76 Vega wagon survivor he just bought this summer.
Good to see survivors...but the Pinto still looks better
Not much of a contest when it comes to good looks, eh?
Dwayne
I always love seeing competitor cars of the 70s next to each other "getting along". :D
Here are a couple more taken at this year's Concours d'Lemons in Monterey, Ca....

it is all original including the engine. He has plans to put a V8 in it some day
It's a really nice looking Vega, very clean. My brother in law did a V8 Vega....quite fast for being stock.
I could easily go the rest of my life without hearing `Vega` again. My brother in law had one,my father had one,and my sister had a wagon. Every time I drove my fathers car something fell off of it and I swear I pushed it more than I drove it. Even with not having my own car,him leting me `drive` his vega somewhere wasnt really a thrill.
Her car the suspension broke because she was delivering phone books in it,and it was pretty much already held together with coat hanger wire :) She had it maybe 2 or 3 years, and of course all these Vega people thought for sure their cars were better than any ford or Pinto.
The Vega was a "decent" car. That 4 cylinder they had was a pile of crap though.
The Vega morphed into the Monza/Sunbird/Starfire/Skyhawk which were pretty good cars, I had one for years until rust destroyed it. Mine had the Buick v-6 .
Now the Monza was a really kool lookin car and made nice hot rods with a small block in them.
My older brother had an Oldsmobile Starfire. I don't know what year it was... but I do remember they were a tad bigger than the Sunbird/Monza body. His was a pretty metallic blue. Alas, a jilted girlfriend's sister torched it when he was stationed in Philadelphia back in '82 or '83. >:(
Funny thing happened the other day...I was in Redding, Calif. in the 73 and some guy asked me what year was my Vega? >:( I politely informed him that it was a 73 Pinto and he wasn't buying it. It takes all kinds!
"Pintos are Cool"
That just goes to show you....some people are just not very well educated...or stupid LOL
Well, a while back someone swore Ruby RedHot was a Mustang... She just couldn't believe it was a Pinto. I even pointed out the emblem that says, "Pinto". lol ::)
I like vegas. My Dad had one when my Mom drive the Pinto wagon. His car was a mess & had the driver side door rigged to close & latch with a bungee cord but I still liked it.
Now that you mention it my sister had a bungee cable holding her passenger door shut too.
