Title: 1978 Pinto 2.3L Jetting

Hello,

I'm  trying to find out what the stock jetting is for a 2.3L ford pinto.  My car is currently jetted as follows:

Primary:
Main 147 flow rate (1.01mm jet diameter)
Air Corrector 185

Secondary:
Main 219 flow rate (1.27mm jet diameter)
Air Corrector 170

With that configuration, the car runs lean and backfires through the carb.  If I swap main jets, so that the Primary runs off the 219 jet, the car runs much better.

I've been doing some research, and as far as I can tell the Pinto comes stock with 140 (1.4mm) or 135 (1.35mm) main jets.

I do not know exactly what they are stock, but it may also depend onwether or or the car has a/c..

Have you pulled the plugs to see if the entire engine is running lean or maybe just one cylinder? You may have 1 cylinder lean due to an intake leak or something and the bigger jet helps to compensate that issue. You didn't really give too much info on the engine itself so a little more would be helpful. Did the engine just start backfiring all at once or is this an issue that started some time ago and has just got worse? How many miles on the engine? Any recent engine work? Did you buy the car and this is what it does since you bought it?....

You may have to "jet up" if there is ethanol in your fuel.. I have a organizer drawer full of those jets, so many different numbers.. Weber jets are the same, most 32/36 webers cone with 140/140 mains and I can't remember the air jet sizes. Google it and there is a site that has a list of what jets came it what, for Webers. It'll get you close. I was looking for fuel mileage and no matter what combo it yielded about the same...
