Title: eBay is messed up
Post by: JoeBob on September 07, 2011, 09:25:30 PM
About a year ago eBay changed how they list things. For auto parts they started this an "Also fits" feature. So now the category for pinto parts has 200 break shoes all the same. Followed by 150 windshield wipers. 1 used mirror followed by 175 identical floor mats. Its stupid. The category went from 800 items to 19,000. It takes hours to look at the stuff that really matters. I complained but got nowhere. Perhaps if you all complained to, we could get something done. It can not possabily be good for eBay. After all If you need wipers, one ad would do.

I agree it is pretty muessed up but it is what it is. I think their view is if you don't like it you don't have to use it. People do have an effect on what websites like ebay do or do not update but with features such as the one you mentioned there will be problems. It's not just for the Pinto, but for other searches as well. I guess you just gotta be more specific now when you do a search.

The trick is to look daily & search "newly listed" & you will find about 200 to 400 new listings to blow through. It takes me 10 minutes to check daily.

Pinto5.0 is absolutely correct.  If you are going to use the saved search feature on ebay, set the sort by box to newly listed before you save the search.  Then when you open the saved search it lists the items by date and time starting with the newist listings.  That will save you lots of time looking for only those newly listed items and not going over and over the ones you have already looked at.  After your first search, the next search message will list how many new items have been listed since the previous message.  Of course, the narrower you make your search subject the better.  But many times that is not easy to do.  Searches can also be narrowed by using the category box to limit what section to look in.  A little trial and error and learning curve helps also.  That is why it is good to ask or state a problem as we do try to help each other out.

I dont search everyday like Pinto 5.0 but what I do is search:  ford pinto -(fits: ford pinto)  and it eliminates most of that junk. Saw a nice little v-8 on ebay last night tho that I won once in an auction but didnt make the reserve and couldn't come to a deal with the owner. Looks real nice.

You must mean that red '73 in Idaho. I really wish I had the spare cash for it.
