Title: Hmmm...should I bid on this Squire?
Post by: beicholz on August 27, 2011, 09:46:55 AM
As many of you know, I recently sold my beloved '76, after deciding to wait for what I really want: a Squire.  Well by now, I'm sure many of you have seen this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Ford-Pinto-Squire-Wagon-WOODY-/170686780877?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item27bdb995cd (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Ford-Pinto-Squire-Wagon-WOODY-/170686780877?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item27bdb995cd) .

Any opinions on the car?

I would be very interested in feedback on this car, especially from those who saw it at the FFF show.  It's not exactly what I want, but it's pretty darn close.

Pros (IMO): Overall condition looks great.   Exterior color.   Woodgrain replaced with original OEM.  Chrome looks good (in pictures anyway).

Cons (also IMO): Interior color, 2.0 engine (not as durable as 2.3?), emblems missing (not a big problem...available on EBAY), 59K miles (may or may not need major work soon)

Again, any other pros and cons would be appreciated!   I'm ready to be driving a Pinto again!

Bob, that's a wagon I would want! In my opinion, the 2.0s were good durable engines too. Maybe not as strong as the 2.3, but when taken care of, they're pretty good.

What I noticed was the top of the wagon's yellow paint is noticeably more faded. I don't know if elbow grease will do the trick or not.

Me, I like the older interiors. The immediate problem I see is the wheels. Ugh! But that's easily remedied if you don't like 'em.

The good news for you is it's not far from you. I say go for it! ;D

If not that one, there's a '74 root beer brown Squire that looks pretty clean. I think it's a Cali car too.

Hey Blupinto,
Thanks for writing.   Where is the root beer wagon?   Don't see it on EBAY.

Regarding the paint, I didn't notice that in the pictures.   Did you see it in person?

The wheels...if you scroll down, the original wheels are included, and that's what I want...all stock.

Thanks again.

That's a good looking car. If it's in your price range and close to what you want...go for it

Bob, I'm not seeing that brown Squire anymore (Idon't recall if I saw the ad on CL or ebay).  As for the fading, I didn't really look that closely at the show, but in one of the pictures where you're facing the rear of the wagon, you can see the lighter shade of yellow from the pillar upwards. If I were you, I wouldn't let that deter you.  Heck- buy it and bring it down here to my place- I'll wash 'n' wax it myself!  ;D
