I'm considering putting the XR-700 setup that came with my station wagon, back into the car. It would eliminate the points and frequent tune ups, which would be great, and I could revert the car back to points again at any time.
The reason I removed it is because one of the tabs on the shutter wheel was broken. Here's the question:
Can I fabricate a stenciled cut out of the wheel and use a extra strength adhesive like gorrila glue or some other super strength adhesive to stick it to the original wheel? Basically cut out a circle with slots in it just like the original wheel has, but it would be adding the extra tab again.
Also, if I were to do this, what type of material should I use to recreate the tab with? It is originally made of plastic, and I just don't want the repair to explode or fly off at the high speeds the distributor may be running at.
The picture attached shows an example of the wheel. The item with the grey dot on it is what broke off.
