Title: Fuel pickup sock
Post by: Stuwil on August 13, 2011, 04:48:30 PM
how necessary is the pickup  sock in the tank. From what I've experienced most of them are useless. I hate to put the tank together just to take it all apart again

It is there for a reason & that is to keep the crap from getting to the carb. It won't get the finer particles but yes, it will keep the bigger stuff from going through & messing up the carb. Why would you need to take it all apart again if you put it all together?

I've used a motorcycle inline fuel filter in place of the sock. Works great! Cleap too!

I was losing fuel pressure when i punched it with less than 3/4 of a tank. when i extended the pickup tube to reach tward the middle of the tank instead of the front the sock was completely disolved anyway just a shell where it used to be   Ive only went a thousand miles with it like that but i cant see why an inline filter wouldnt be better than the sock. A lot easier to change anyway
