i know i saw this topic somewhere before can't find it now i may have a chance at a t-9 5spd trans from a murkur (not sure the tear) but what i want to know is will it bolt in or will there be some mods i want to put it on a 2000 engine also do i have to change the clutch out or can i still use the stock assy. and would i have to change out the drive shaft? or someone hook me up with the link to this topic?
thanks guys
My local Pinto buddy did this in his 72. Not exactly sure what it required from the bell housing standpoint, but I don't believe he had to change his drive-shaft. You could PM him about it, his name here is fast64ranchero
I did this a couple months ago as Dave stated, it's a great swap IF you can find a good T-9 the only parts you'll need is a XR4TI Release bearing, you will need to mod. the bellhousing, front bearing carrier and input shaft on the T-9, stock clutch, and drive line works great and the shifter is in the stock spot.
The T-9 has a small 3 bolt cover on the bellhousing mating surface, you need to cut a whole in the stock bell to allow the bell to bolt up against the T-9
You'll also need to cut down the front bearing carrier on the T-9 to match the length on the stock Pinto trans, this is the piece the Release bearing rides/slides on
The T-9 input shaft is longer where it slides into the Pilot bearing, you need to cut this down to also match the stock Pinto trans, Bevel the edge after you cut it, this will help when you go to install it back into the Pilot bearing, make it match the stock taper. a special fluid was used in the XR4TI to make them live behind the turbo'd 2.3, I use normal old full syn. 75-90, sorry I didn't take any pics, but I did it all on a Saturday, by myself....
Here is some info on my mods for the T-9. I hope it helps.
