I will be doing this swap on my 78 Sedan next week and was wondering...
If I do a yoke swap, to use the Pinto swap instead of the Aerostar Yoke (same splines), do I need to have the shaft rebalanced? From what I can tell with online videos, drive-shafts are balanced without any couplers or yokes attached to the shaft.
what is the benifit of using a areostar drive shaft??
thanks
eric
Lighter than the steel Pinto drive shaft, it is made of aluminum.
I did the AWD Aerostart DS swap on my 86 Saleen last fall. I used my original yoke and flange for the 8.8 (due to them being smaller) and have no problem with balancing so far. For comparaison sakes, my original DS weighed 17 lbs assembled. The Aerostar DS weighed 9 lbs using my original yoke and axle flance. Not a bad weight reduction.2
what year aerostar van is needed for the swap and what model van?? and is it for a hatch/ sedan or a wagon??
first time hearing about this!!
thanks
eric

Should work on sedan, hatchs and wagons since they all use the same wheelbase....As for what year if i remember right its like 92-97 and they have to be the AWD ones. The 92-95 have pressed on end caps on the driveshaft and the 96-97 have welded on caps but either one will work.
sweet will be looking for one for the wagon
thanks for the info
