Title: 1974 Pro Touring Wagon
Post by: Ghostlystang on July 30, 2011, 02:58:57 PM
I am fairly new here, but figured this should be my new home since I have found motivation to start working on my Pinto finally.

Currently as it sits its not in total crap condition but it needs some TLC.

and this is definatly gonna stay after this build is finished as it was in the car when i got it

it is currently a wore out 2.3 in an unknown condition with a c4 in same condition. I also have a 5.0/t-5 mustang that i will be using as as the drivetrain swap (currently in my mustang), but a 2.3 turbo swap is not totally out the question. I have had multiple ford turbos and love the motor (88 turbocoupe, 84 GT turbo, 91 swapped 2.3t) My thoughts on the way this car should look its definatly go to pre-74 front and rear bumpers, coilovers, home made fenderflares (for deep dish wheels) ect. I have owned full drag cars and really would like something to rip around the streets on.

As far as a color scheme i was thinking gunmetal with black and red accents and stumbled upon this pic and really like the idea of the colors.

This is gonna take a while cause I have 2 small children and a wife   so we all know how that is gonna go, but i will keep track of progress as i go. All the work will be done by me so i cant promise everything will be perfect tho lol

If you're getting rid of interior parts... I would love those inner door panels with the pony on them... ::)

I'm glad you're keeping the disco ball; it gives the car instant character!

i roll panned the back of my car and bought a skinny front bumper. originally a 74 bumper. The frame rails are in the way of the lower valance and my intercooler is in the way of the upper. Im going to "modify" the frame rails and cut the upper to fit around my intercooler. Just thought i would let you know its kindof a pain to swap to earlier bumpers

thanks for the heads up, i think im gonna do it anyway even if it takes a while... i really hate the look of the big bumpers compared to the small bumpers.
can you send me a pic of the roll panned rear i kinda like that idea.

That multi colored wagon belongs to Mike Streets (mpintotoo) He painted it grabber orange/black, it's lowered 2" up front & 3" in back. The wheels are knock off Panasports  & 225/15 tires ,it has a 88 TurboCoupe & C4 it's pretty quick. I think that picture was taken at last years Concours  D LeMons .

Switch to the small bumpers, its not that big of a pain. Plus if you go turbo engine and run a front mount intercooler its a lot easier to mount with small bumper than big bumpers. I have never been a fan of big front bumpers.

Glad to see someone else building one of these in the Pro-touring style. I just got another shipment of parts so I'm looking to get my Pro-tourer on the road soon. I'm wanting to add some fender flares as well but it looks like I'm going to have to build them too. I don't think the universal ones out there will fit the body right. I'm going with a euro feel on mine.

Good luck with your project. I know all about going slow. Mine has been down almost a year. Very little time to work on it between the wife, kid, full time job, and school. I've even gone back and forth with selling it. I'm so close now though I wanna keep going!
