Title: quick question
Post by: americanpintobean on July 04, 2011, 02:40:39 PM
What is the redline for a stock 2.3L?  It is a 1980 with manual trans, if that helps.

I'm not sure myself. My 78's 2.3 has been rebuilt, bored out some with a 92 mustang roller camshaft and rollers. I don't like to take mine over 4k RPM, which is about 90MPH with my 3.00 geared 8" axle.

I am also using the stock 4spd transmission as well.

i understand that, but what is the redline?  I am making a 4cyl "hornet" dirt race car.  And before we mod the motor for next year, we do not want to blow this one up in the first race.

Like Steve, I turn mine 7200 between the gears. It will easily turn 7700 and I have turned it 8200 a couple of times, but it doesn't pick up any past the 7700. These little engines have an almost bullet proof bottom end, so turn it what ever you feel comfortable at and don't worry about it.
