Im getting ready to pickup a 2.3 with an auto trans from a 91 mustang.
I want to install the auto trans into my 75 wagon.
I think the trans is not controlled by computer but the lockup converter and 4th gear is.
Anyone know if this will fit ease?
More details the better
Any help is welcome
I belive it should fit. You will need the flexplate from the Mustang. You have the A4LD transmission right? When I first got the wifes 88 Mustang it had transmission issues which turned out to be the ECU locking up the converter in first gear. After figuring this out I just unplugged the wiring going to the tranny. The tranny shifted and worked just fine. The actual lockup is worth about 300 or so rpm on that transmission. The problem you may run into is hooking up the "passing gear" cable. Fabricating some linkage might turn out be a pain.
Also, 4th gear isn't controlled from the ECU, just the converter lockup
I have that same trans in my 79 Ranchero, I just don't use 4th gear. Fabricated shift down linkage. Fred :)
Do you have any pics of that Fred?
Let me sell you a spare transmission Fred...lol
Robert I thought you saw that installation, that little 2.3 pulls the 3300 lb boat out of the water and up the ramp (the engine that could) I will see what kinda pictures I can come up with. Fred :)
See pictures. Fred :)
Closer view.
Does your transmission have a 2 wire or a 3 wire plug on it Fred? From the looks of your diagram it might be 3. I had 4th gear in the 88 Mustang even with that plug pulled out which was a 2 wire plug. I've seen the install...the pics were more for anyone else that might be wondering about it.
WOW! Thanks for all the info, it will be a great help...
Im not sure if the trans is going to be 2 or 3 wire. I hope 2. It will make things alot easier cause
I want 4th gear(gas prices)
Thanks again all
