Title: Enough ?
Post by: Reeves1 on June 20, 2011, 04:30:07 PM
Isn't it bluepinto that has a sig line: one Pinto is not enough (or something like that) ?

Maybe, she be right

Been trying to keep my yap shut till I get it home..... later this week I'm off to pick up a 77 Pinto. V8 swap has been started. Part of a swap is the fun building it....oh well. The price is right though.
I will post pictures of it when I get it home & details of what all comes with it.
I do know I'll need some parts to do what I want.

I will still be on a road trip south this Oct to pick the 76 up.
Looks like I'll be building two now !   (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v140/DerrickJB/JOKES/cookoo.gif)

I have two and 1/2 (making a trailer).
if I had the space, I would have 10 or 12 at least. A minium of 7 so I could have one for each day of the week  ;D

Getting excited about picking it up !
Wish I could figure a way to load the trailer on top of the truck for the drive there. Save wear & tear on it.
Going to be about a 6 hour drive one way.
I placed an ad on a local forum asking if anyone needs something hauled that way. Let them pay for fuel ! LOL ! (not that it matters, I have 420 LTS / 90 gal of free fuel in the tidy tank  )

Huge, huge waste of time !

I called and talked with the fellow before driving over. He said he chose that car due to it not having a rust problem.
Told me it is in good shape & that he had done lots of work on the interior.

So off I go on a road trip of over 1000 km, round trip.
I got there while he was still at work & got a good look at it.
The pan is so rusted out the seats are falling through the floor. If someone sat in a seat you would end up on the ground.
Rockers are completely ruted out & he filled them with expanding spray foam. Same with a pile of other holes.
It was in an accident at some past time, right front.
The inner fender was crudely sort of bent back. The front right tire sits about two inches back farther than the left side & nearly touches the back of the fender.

Car is junk. No idea how he got it in his head to try a V8 swap !  It is ready to buckle in half sitting there.

Then he tried to sell me the 302. It is out of an old truck. Never re-built. He put an Edelbrock Performer intake on it. For some completely unknown reason, he got an adapter plate & put a Quadrajet carb on it.
He wanted 300 for the engine. I passed on that.

The original engine & trans (auto) was taken out last summer & lay on it's side next to a fence. Claims it is a good engine.
Spedo cable hole open, facing up, for over a year now. It will be full of water, dirt & rust.

So, a 12 + hour trip for my health, I guess.
Really bugs me he knowingly lied to me......

Forgot to mention, he also wrecked the interior & made a mess of putting the 8.8 diff in.
Moon/sun roof was put in at some past time & it too was a messed up job.

Hey, look on the bright side!  At least it wasn't an eBay purchase that you paid for in advance and then found in that condition when you went to pick up!  I've purchased several cars on eBay and that has always been a nightmare of mine, although I've been lucky enough that it has never materialized!

Fred - your parts car is in much better shape than the one I looked at. I had thought it would maybe have parts to save, but the only thing it had that could be saved was the glass. The rest was all junk.

I'm going to quit looking for "deals" and just pay the money for a zero rust car.

Might even line up a 30' trailer & bring two back !
