Hey everyone,
During the high speed driving to Denver from and Oakland for the stampede I had to have my tires rebalanced. They did a great job in Winnemucca NV. I had forgotten my wheel lock key so they spun them off and put regular lugs on. Any way, on my return trip from Carlisle, I stopped in Detroit to go to the Henry Ford Museum, bought some new wheel locks (neighborhood was so-so where we stayed). Put the new locks on and when we left for California, I noticed a slight vibration again on the freeway. I took off the front wheel locks and the vibration went away. They were significantly heavier than the regular lug nuts and I think I can verify that although the lug nuts spin very close to the center of the hub, they can adversely affect the wheel balance on a Pinto at high speed.
Just my 2 cents...
Joe

Makes sense to me, although I probably wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't experienced problems!
