Im trying to wire in a neutral safety switch in my wagon. I have an MSD6A ignition, and a QuickCar ignition control panel ICP20, and an ignition cutoff switch located in the rear by the battery. Stock ignition switch has been bypassed. It is used to lock the column only. Also am installing a B&M shifter z gate shifter, but the instructions are really of no help with my setup. Shifter comes with the switches, but no clue how to wire in.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can't run the car at the strip without the neutral switch hooked up & functioning!
Im gonna call QuickCar tomorrow, but any help would be great!
Thanks!
All of the cars came pre-wired for a NSS, sorta. If it was a stick car, it was just a connector hanging at the left top area of the trans tunnel. It had a jumper connector plugged into it. The wire color is blue with a red stripe and it goes to the starter solinoid.
Yes I found the connector, but the previous owner saw fit to snip the wires off! there was enough left on the connector to tell the color though...the backup light wires are still there...yay...
so is it a fair assumption that if I go under the dash and look for a blue & red stripe wire, that should be it right? Ill have so see if they left the wire on the starter solenoid...and yes it was a stick car....sorry I zoop at wiring!
much better at mechanical...or, do I find the wire under the dash and splice in the switch between the solenoid and the wire? Does it go to a wire on the MSD box??
Thats why I really need a wiring diagram, and cant find one...thanks for replying....
With the jumper wire sniped off the transmission tunnel connector, the car should not start. So somebody must of added some non-stock wiring to get around the missing jumper. In a stock set up, the R-LB wire goes from the ignition switch through a couple under dash connectors, to the transmission switch connector jumper, and then on to the starter solenoid.
If you want, I can send you scans of the stock wiring diagram sections in question, just pm me your email address. The diagrams are 28"x17" and my scanner is 8.5"x11", thus the reason for sections. Also I have two versions of the 71 diagrams, one dated 8-1-70 and the other dated 4-30-71. The starting wiring appears the same but some of the designations changed (as far as I can tell).
YES oldkayaker you are correct! I found the non stock wiring after digging under the hood wiring harness...sheesh! so now i can just go from the solenoid to the neutral safety switch and then to the starter button...really simple now! but man, did it have me going!! there just isnt that much wiring on a Pinto!!!
And what REALLY threw me off too was the wire connected to the QuickCar ignition switch. It was this REALLY big wire attached to it that LOOKED like a 10 Gauge wire, but after I took it off the switch I saw that it was really a 14 gauge wire masquerading as 10 Ga with a really heavy covering over it!!! Boy do I feel stupid, but at least I figured it out...eventually!!
Thanks for all of your help, guys, oldkayaker and 71pintoracer...and the quick repsonses!
Im back in business again, and almost ready to go to the track!!
Thanks
