Title: 1980 fuel pump
Post by: sedandelivery on May 28, 2011, 06:30:53 PM
Stupid question: I am going to tackle my fuel pump soon, but there is a square bracket around it. What is it for, and how does it come off, and why the extra hose on the pump?  My car acts like it's not getting proper gas flow and there seems to be oil leaking from the pump. Thank you.

I have never heard of that...  Are you able to take a pic of it?

I will try to get out there later and get a photo. Weird!

The bracket protects the fuel system (pump); it is attached with three bolts (I think).
The 3rd hose goes to the charcoal canister to collect hydrocarbons.

i had the same thing on mine it was a California car. my fuel pump leaked oil too. i thought it was the gasket but there was actually a hole that it looked like a pin or something fell out of and when i turned off my car it always left spots. so i just replaced the fuel pump and problem solved
