Title: 2.0 T5 conversion.
Post by: kris kincaid on April 14, 2005, 03:05:27 AM
I need a little clarification on the whole 2.0 vs 2.3 bellhousing. I see that you need stepped dowels to mate the two together. Other than that, they are identical? I see people are always looking for a 2.3 C4 bellhousing. Wouldn't a 2.0 C4 bellhousing work also? Couldn't you just drill out the holes?

What I am considering is finding a T5 out of a late 80's 2.3 Mustang and putting it in my '73 that currently has a 2.0 and a C4. I have always liked the manual transmissions because of the increased power to the wheels and the extra MPG don't hurt either.

Will the Mustang 2.3 flywheel work? I'm hoping that this will be a more or less bolt in affair.

Has anybody ever done this? Anybody have any insight?

Thanks!   :)

Check out my " Pangra Project" posts on the T5/2.0 set up. The 2.0 auto trans is a C-3 not a C-4 and so the bellhousings are different.

Brad,

Thanks for the info. Your Pangra is looking good. All the info I have seen indicated that the C3 was not available in the early 70's. I have a "W" in the trans box on the door post tag, and the Clymer manual says designates a C4. I guess I need to actually climb under it and look!  :P

Thanks again.  :)

First year for C3 trans was 1974 door code V.
First year for C4 trans was 1964 door code W.
C4 was used in Pinto until 74 and then both C3 & C4 thru 1980.
info found in Ford parts catalog.

Yep, Bill is correct. My bad. with all the 2.3 stuff I use I assumed you had a 2.3 trans ( which would have been a C-3 " usually" ). My mind is filled with paint fumes latley........... :P

Here is my answer to the T-5 2.0 conversion.
Note the NEW weld after I broke all the flywheel bolts clean as a carrot!

P.S. I too run the Ford Motorsports aluminum driveshaft.

Very good info here. Sometimes I need everything clearly spelled out I guess!!  ::)  :P

Pintony,

What exactly are we looking at in your photo? Did you cut the top ears off, move them, and re-weld?? Thanks! :)

Hello Kris,
Perfectly Ligit question!!!
I started with a T-5 bell and cut the top off.
Then I bolted it to a bare 2.0 block and cut the top off a Hummer belhousing.
After cutting a fitting and bolting to the 2.0 block
I filled in the middle with an aluminum plate.

So far everything is looking pretty straight forward. However, the last piece is the flywheel. Will the 2.3 flywheel work on the 2.0?  :-\

Thanks again!  :)

Hay Kris,
Just use the stock 2.0 Flywheel.
The 2.3 has a different bolt pattern to the to the crankshaft.
