Title: Pressure plate for T5 swap?
Post by: Bobcat Racer on April 18, 2011, 09:46:07 AM
I've read through all of the threads I could find on the T5 swap but couldn't find an answer for which pressure plate to use.  I bought a 2.3/T5 combo out of an '89 Mustang and the T5 is going in the Bobcat.  The flywheel on my '79 2.3 looks the same as the Mustang flywheel but the pressure plates are different.  Does it matter which one I use?
Thanks,
Greg

I used a t5 from a mustang but used pressure plate and clutch and flywheel for a 88 Turbo coupe

I found out you can use any 2.3 flywheel and pressure plate (Mustang, Pinto, T-Bird) provided you have the correct diameter 10 spline clutch.  My new problem was that I couldn't get full engagement of the clutch due to my very thin lightened flywheel.  Luckily Racer Walsh sells a longer T5 throwout bearing to take up the slack.
