Title: Cam choice for 2.0L
Post by: fast64ranchero on April 17, 2011, 12:05:03 PM
I'm planning my next project, I just picked up a real nice 73, I want to make a nice driver with more power but keep mileage, so here's my plan swap the 4 speed for a 5 speed, bump the compression to 9.5-10 to 1, do some head porting, open up the exhaust with a header and bigger exh.   Not sure for induction yet, I might use the offy dual plan intake and a 390 Holley,

My question is (for those of you that know) what cam have you ran, not to many companies/choices to choose from, so far I've found Isky, Engle cams, Lunati, Esslinger, and Kent cams (UK company) Kent Cams have the most to choose from by far,

What have you used and how did you like it?  I don't mind a lopey cam, but it can't get to big and kill the mileage.

Thanks Walt

I'm using an old Norris Cams .450 lift, 280ish duration grind in one of mine. It idles well and pulls good to 6500. I have a spearco intake, 390 holley, mallory electronics, and clifford header. The header is a must...I tried the stock manifold while having the header coated and the engine just would not rev. Another item: most cams over .450 or so lift require longer valves and taller valvesprings. Gas mileage?...I do have a .510 lift General Kinetics stick on the shelf.. ;D JT

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking at Kent cams FR32, although I may change my mind when I find out how much it cost to get it from the UK to me...
