Tomorrow morning I am going back out to my regular junk yard to pull some V8 parts off a couple Mustang IIs.
I will be pulling the oil pan, pickup tube, and motor mounts (both frame and bushing mounts). I also plan to pull the reclining seat track.
Am I forgetting anything mustang II specific that would make my future V8 swap easier? I know the bell from the C4 in there could be pulled, but I plan to use a T5 behind it anyway, so no real need to pull that.
dont forget the exhaust manifolds...unlessyou want to do headers
Headers are the plan! :)
You could pick up the bellhousing and resell it to someone that is looking for one. You may be able to recoupe some of the cost of the V8 swap parts that you are going to keep?
i agree with Tigger what do they want for the manifolds.might be interested i have a turbo pinto, a pinto with a 2.3, and a 2.0 thinking bout a v8 swap for the bobcat
Well I got out there and it turns out that someone else had the same idea as I did. They pulled the pan, pickup, frame and motor mounts and the manifolds. :( Everything I was going to pull, down to the letter!
I did get the center console, and shift knobs the last visit before they were nabbed though, so I guess we're even.
Today I pulled the seat rail with the tilt option. Two of the screws broke off but I can use carriage bolts or two bolts from my old seats to replace those with. Just need to clean it up and paint it before attaching it to my 78's driver seat.
I found another horn button for the sport style steering wheel, still in one piece to! Now I have two good caps for the two sport wheels I have in storage! Now if I only had the same for my stock steering wheels....lol
I found my brother a shift boot and hold down plate for his 75 chevy truck's 4wheel shifter, as well as a brand new heavy duty blue seat cover for his bench seat. I think he'll be happy with it.
Seems like my V8 swap plans have come to a halt for now. I don't want to do the conversion without the MII parts to keep things clean and stock looking without much fabrication.
That really sucks that someone beat you to the parts.
Yeah, and I was so excited to get those parts! :'(
I'm thinking of getting one of those generic "MII V8" pans and having my cousin modify it, since he welds professionally. But then there is still the oil pump pickup which must be matched to the pan, right?
Mounting the motor can be done with minor modification, and I can always get a set of hooker headers for the exhaust, but the easiest way would always be the MII parts route.
as for the pick up, as long as it is in the sump, you are golden. The modification to the pan should be no issue for you
