I am looking at getting my 77 sedan painted for Carlisle, so I thought it would be interesting to put a post up to see which color is preferred. The car is basically stock & is going to have blue interior with black accents, including a black center console, some parts of the dash black, & the rear package tray may be black as well. Join in the fun everyone! Your input & opinion is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your participation :D
a much darker blue like this one.

That's a nice color! Looks more like a midnight blue.
Hey Matt!
I like the dark blue that carbomb suggested, but I think you'll find it too dark to look right on your Pinto. My '79 Continental Collector's Series is Midnight Blue Metallic and it looks great on a car that size, but I wouldn't want it on a small car.
As for the two samples you provided, are either of them stock Pinto colors? The one on the left looks very much like the color of a '79 Mercury Bobcat my family owned back in the day. Of the two choices provided, it would be my choice. Dark enough to be rich looking, but light enough to look right on the car.
Can't wait to see you in Carlisle. Are you coming in with the Stampede, or driving in separately?
Dwayne
Well Dwayne
I don't know if either color is a factory Pinto color. When I went to Ollie's Discount Bargain Outlet I saw the paint that was sprayed on the right of the decklid, & the left side is a Ford color, but don't know what for. I found it in my garage & figured why not. It's still in the air what color to go with, especially since I am wanting to get as close as I can to what Maaco offers.
Well, I took a closer look at the pics & showed them to my dad. He saw the colors on the car outside & also on the pics. While the right looked better outside he changed his tune once I showed the pics. We'll see what happens with the pole before I make a final decision lol
Matt. My 78 Sedan is painted a metallic blue similar to the colors you posted in the pictures.
In shade or darker lighting, my car looks like the color on the left, in the sun or well lighted areas it looks like the color on the right.
My color is a Shermin Williams Ultra 7000 "Canyon Blue". It was a color used by GM on 92 Jeeps. I can get you the paint code if you like.
Here are two good shots of my car.
between the 2 you have on the car the darker one
for me...the brighter blue...say like a mini cooper electric blue 8) that would be my choice...but thats me...
Google a sample of : PB3 - Intense Blue, Pearlcoat
See if you like it ?
So far it looks like my mind has been changed. I am prolly going to go with the darker blue.
It was a rough decision, but in the end I liked the dark blue! ;D
So far the dark blue seems to be winning. I am starting to think the same thing.
Duplicolor has a very nice saphire blue, kinda light metal flake appearing blue. I think along that line would look great. But, be carefull the color of the primer will have a huge adverse effect of the top coat! This can be even more variable with a deep clear coat! But I think yor plan sounds absolutly terrific!
Yeah, I hear ya about the color being affected by the primer. For now I am taking the car to Maaco & having them shoot it, as it will cost more for me to get the tools & etc. to paint it right. It will be temporary but she will look better than she does now.
My favorite blue is early 90s ford lapius blue poly almost looks purple at night under flouresent parking lot lights
The brainbox is all confused now. :lost: :lost: The bodywork isn't going to be all pretty so I'm not sure about which to go with.
Heaven help me now lol.
Copper! lol

I will say this as nice as possible ;D I HATE THAT M-F'N COLOR!!!! haha.... To some it's okay, but I hated the color of the car when I bought it & still do 6 years later. She will be blue, but whether she is a dark or light shade at the moment I am unsure. Especially when I am reminded just how rusty she is.

As a rule of thumb, light colors are the most "forgiving". If your bodywork is less than perfect, using a dark color paint will accentuate every flaw. If there's absolutely no way to smooth out the body work and get it looking really good before painting, opt for the lightest shade of blue you can get... something similar to the one Fred Morgan just did. It WILL help hide the problems!

I agree..
The winner is the color on the right. I went to Maaco & they went through their book of paint chips & the shade I decided on is a medium blue. It was actually a color offerred in 1977, so it should look really good with the interior combination I have chosen. BTW... The color on the right is actually called medium blue & the color was a Ford color. Looks like I will be able to do my door jambs & under the hood & decklid myself lol.
Can't wait to see her with her new paintjob!
