Hey my name is Jonathan,
I have been lurking here since early March. I just bought the 1975 pinto that was for sale in lexington ky in the Classifieds. I am going to try to get it running in the next little while. I plan to do a rolling resto on the car hopefully by the end of summer it will be running, painted and have the front seats recovered.

PS: any ideas for what color may look good?
New guy on the block,
Jonathan
LOL any color but red god do i hate red! Im kinda tempted to get another pinto and paint it house of Kolor rootbeer kandy.
LEAVE IT RED AND AS STOCK AS POSSIBLE!!!! ;D Red is a GREAT color on a Pinto ;D
Ruby RedHot agrees!
That would explain why my phone calls went un-answered ;D
Good for you though !
How "rust free" is the car ?
Wow. That is a nice looking car! I would keep it as close to the same color as possible. That is not a shade you see too often. To be honest you might be able to rub out the paint to bring through the original shine.

The car has some surface rust and all the lower quarter panels have a spot about two inches long and an inch high that are through. Other than that there is nothing that I have found so far. But I have not been under it to amount anything yet.

My bodyman friend told me the same thing. How often do you see red pintos?
Jonathan
I'm partial to orange Pintos and everyone here knows that! That notwithstanding, I like the red on your car... it looks good!

Well, red Pintos are one thing, but this looks more like a maroon than a true red. This is a color that I haven't seen much of on a Pinto, especially with the body trim having the same color down the middle.
Ok i will think about trying to keep it the same color. But with orange being mentioned is orange a common color on these cars?
Jonathan
my74pinto is red my two79s are orange

Actually, several different shades of orange were used on the Pintos over the years of production. My very first Pinto was purchased new in 1974 - an orange Runabout with black interior. Orange was fairly common on Pintos.

I appricate all you input I think I am going to go with some form of orange and stripes.
Thanks for the input

That is the same red my 1978 wagon had when I bought it 25 years ago.Not much is till left on it,I was wondering how difficult it would be to reproduce that red. Maybe just a little basic red and a dab of ford blue?
If your interior is red, I really like the black metalflake that is on the new Fusion. The flakes are red, blue, green, etc. That is the way I'm doing my rally wagon.
P
Try polishing & waxing it first.
You might be surprised how nice it comes out.
