Having an issue with my 77 Pinto sedan. The hazard flashers do not work. The brake lights work, flasher unit is good & switch seems alright.
I originally thought it was the switch, but if I hit the switch it will blink a couple times, then nothing. I know the flasher unit is good, as I took the one from the turn signals, which is good. No change. As far as I know the wiring is good, as it has continuity. Any ideas??
Sounds like switch may be the problem.
It's the switch. I replaced my 73 wagon's original switch (which had a broken cam) for a spare I had lying around (with a half working cam) because the hazards didn't work. The replacement I installed everything worked flawlessly. Now that I have another different switch installed with a good cam on it, the hazards sometimes work and sometimes don't, it's never consistent.
Lucky for you, later model signal switches are easier to find than the pre-74 ones!
I know for sure that 74 and up Pintos, Mustang IIs, and 70s Rancheros all use the same signal switch! I want to say that I pulled one from a Fairmont at one time as well, but couldn't say for sure.
Well, I had found a turn signal switch when I went to a Ford swap meet yesterday & it does the same thing. Is it possible something else is wrong?
Just looking at a 77 EVTM and it shows a difference in the internal wiring of the flasher units between turn signal and emergency flasher. Assuming they are different, maybe a new emergency flasher unit is needed.

Hmmmm... You know I never thought of that. The problem just happened a couple months back & it has the same flasher units as it did before, but I will try anything. Best to check anything I can to see what happens.
Did you check the fuse? ;D

;D Funny thing Becky, I thought I did but it turns out the fuse I checked was not the right one. You see, I replaced the fuse box in 2006 with a modern one & never relabeled it lol. oopsey
I guess I shoulda added that I managed to fix the problem on the car. Turns out it was a combination of a bad fuse & bad turn signal switch. All is well with the car (for now)
YAY!!!!! :tgif: Thank Goodness It's Fixed!
Yep!! Now to get workin on the interior & exterior of the car, so she looks all nice for Carlisle.
