Walker makes an exact replacement muffler for 1980 Pinto: Tru-Fit model 18126. You should be able to find it locally or google it. I got mine at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. Neither O'Reilly's or Walker's catalogs go back to 1980, so it's impossible to get information from them. Hope this helps!
what motor size is that muffler for??
one would think a 4banger would be different from a v6
thanks

The 1980 Pinto only came with the 2.3L. I know because I tried to get a V6 one in 1980 to tow a boat. Towed one anyway.

im surprised that the 1980 muffler would not fit other years?!>!?!
just asking thanks

I had to buy a new muffler for my 77 and it was readily found at advanced auto!
I also have a a 77 pinto with a 2.3 . You said you got a muffler at Advance was it a direct fit? If so , do you have the part number? I have an adavnce up here but the said they had no listing for it and there was nothing they could do. I appreciate it. Thanks Jim
older cars are tough to find exhaust system parts for as you guys are discovering. when i had my shop back in the '70's even then it was getting tough to find direct fit replacements for cars built in the late '60's.
if you have a muffler shop anywhere near you that is equipped to build custom systems, the guys/gals at the shop should be able to research what is available using the manufacturers dimensional criteria as compared to what you have on your car (inlet & outlet ID & OD as well as the case dimensions & shape along with the placement of the inlet & outlet on the ends of the muffler) to arrive at a workable solution.
if this local exhaust shop does any amount of truly custom work this should be a piece of cake for them to do.
in any case, if no direct fit replacements are available a shop with a good bender & an operator to work it should be able to fit you up with something to both keep it quiet (if that's what you desire) AND fit like a glove.
