Title: V8 Mustang II headers... does this fit our cars?
Post by: nomorpar on March 12, 2011, 11:51:45 AM
Hi guys,

Just have a deal to pick up a 302 w/c4 small bellhousing with headers out of a 1976 Mustang II. I know that the tranny & engine fits (I'm picking up the frame mounts also) but does anyone know if the headers fit? the are the wrap the engine & tranny type. Please let me know what u think.... I will try to get pics so that u guys can understand what I mean. (by the way, I have a 1980 Pinto)

Carl

Member 71 Hotrod Pinto used them on his and they had to be modified, so.....no. However, the 74 up has a bigger engine bay so....maybe?

I think Racers right. Below 74 the engine bay is smaller, but I believe I have seen the setup your talking about on a 75 sedan at the Pinto meeting in Auburn WA I went to last year. Id say see if you can make it fit, if it does great if not modify them.

Tks guys.... I guess the question should have been: does a Mustang II & 75-up Pinto share the same firewall/floor pan/underframe rail ? if so, I can't see why it would not fit... As per the guy I want to get them from, he told me that they are Blackjack headers. i did not see this engine combo in his car but he told me that in order to install them, the following steps must be followed:

1)bolt up the tranny (automatic only) to the engine
2)bolt the starter to the engine/tranny combo
3)bolt up the headers to the engine
4)take the whole engine/tranny/headers combo & install as a whole in the engine bay

I would really like to see this in a Pinto. I can't believe that no members have this combo or at least tried it. Anyway, the headers are cheap enough for me ($100.00) that I may just try them.

I'm pretty sure the engine bays are different enough that they won't be a bolt in, if they were then there would be no need for $450.00 swap headers....

Every thing in print that I have read says that they will not fit. Only one way to find out! LOL
