Title: Broken Wire help
Post by: Fair 73 on March 08, 2011, 08:05:28 PM
 Hello
I have managed to find broken wires in my drivers side kick panel. I took a picture of them can anyone tell me what they are for. The broken one is yellow with white stripe the  wire barely holding in green with orange stripe. ( I put a test light on the yellow and white stripe wire and it flashes I thought it may be for the fuel sender but now guess it is for the signal light.)) It is the red connector. Also does anyone know if any of these go to the fuel guage and sender.
As you can see wires are my weak point any help appreciated.
Luke

Looks like a bit of a mess there. Yellow with a white stripe has been Fords fuel sender wire forever. Do you know how to solder?

I want to thank you for the reply, A mess is an understatement.  I am able to solder fairly well and will give it a try. My fuel guage has not worked since I got the car. I posted another picture that may show it better.
Thanks Again

If I were fixing that, I'd pick up another plug (auto store or junk yard) for longer wire out of it.
Don't use an acid core/type solder.
Longer wire out of the plug will allow you to use shrink tube to protect the (new) joint.

Also, for it to break the wires had to be moving while driving. You need to tie them up. Snap ties will do this.

I can send you both plugs with extra wire to splice in for $15.00 on a 2 day ship time.  Fred   :)

I wanna thank all of you for the help and I greatly appreciate it. I managed to find another plug that I had on a old wire harness. It is soldered in and in much better shape now.
Thanks again
