Title: rear end help
Post by: 71ss351 on April 01, 2005, 08:04:16 PM
I recently installed a mustang 7.5 rear end in my 71 and had the perches welded on for the leaf springs, and had to go with bigger u-bolts, the problem is I had to drill the holes out on the mounting plate, I was able to get the outside drilled but I can not get to the inside, there is only one u-bolt on each side, does any one have any suggestions

Be easy on the 7.5, crappy center pinion pin will bend under too much power and take out your pinion gears. It happened 3 times on my friends '83 5.0 GL mustang.

Very smart. When I bought my '88 5.0 LX with the 8.8, I had already heard too many horror stories about the 7.5 and also changed my center diff right away even though the 8.8 solved the issue.

Uhh, yeah, that is a good idea but those rearends are getting real hard to find in junk yards around my neck of the woods.............. ;), also, after you find one , you will need to rebuild the center section and change out the 2:80 gears.... ;D
