I picked up a rear swaybar from a Mustang II last week. It is missing the front mounting brakets. Has anyone installed one in a Pinto? Are they bolt in?
Yes ,i installed one on my 80 rallye some years ago.Yhe inner brackets bolted right on,the outer ones are no problem either.Just line them up in your inner wheel weels and drill some holes and bolt them in.I had to buy a set of mustang II rear shocks, since i am also using the lower shock mounts from a II.Hope this helps you.
I plan on installing it on my wagon. I will be using the lower mounting brackets as well from the Mustang II. What is the difference in the shocks? Why did they need to be changed?
The Pintos use a stud type lower mount and the Mstg II uses a bushing with a bolt going horizontally through it. The sedans use a stud type upper mount while the wagons uses a two bolt tang type supported in the upper rubber bushing. I'm going to do the same thing with my wagon. I'm going to cut the shock mounts off the Mstg II bracket and then weld the Mstg II and Pinto plates together. This will give me the mounting surface for the sway-bar and the original shock mount for the wagon.
