Title: Carb rebuild kit - anyone/anywhere?
Post by: popbumper on February 23, 2011, 09:48:31 PM
All:

As part of the meticulous restoration I am performing I am very much interested in rebuiding my early Holley carb (5200 IIRC).

Today's visit to Auto Zone asking about a carb rebuild kit elicited an "oh mi God" response, with no help. Rock Auto also does not carry one.

Can anyone suggest a valid resource for a carb rebuild kit and/or someone skilled in doing so that won't cost a fortune (meaning, less than buying a remanufactured unit)?

  Thanks!

Chris

I got mine from a local parts store here in Topeka. (Bumper to Bumper) it was $13.00 for the kit. The box says "Road Pro" and the part number is 5292B. I dont know if that will help, but just in case. Good luck. Kenny

I just bought my carb kit from Autozone as well (it was the Gp-Sorensen/Carburetor Kit Part Number:96-334A), but it you're looking for the other kit 96-376A GP-Sorensen carb Rebuild you can pick it up from Advance Auto Parts. The only reason why I'm throwing that out there is that for the next week or so Advance is having a sale if you order online, regardless of whether you pick it up at the store or have it shipped to the house, of 15% off.

I had just placed a large order online through Autozone when they had some kind of warehouse shipping computer crash and my parts were over a week late, when I called their service number I got the run around. So, I got pissed and cancelled the order. The next day when I called the Autozone store and gave them the part numbers my order price jumped over $100. I've decided that I will go out of my way to not give autozone any more of my business so I started checking around. I ended up saving $110 over the original price I was willing to pay for all of my parts by ordering online from Advance, and they let me come into my local store and pick up whatever they had in stock. The rest is coming UPS ground and should show up by Wednesday or Thursday. The best part of it was when I showed up to pick up my parts, I got to skip the entire line of people in the store and sign for my purchase and walk out.

Thanks all. My friend 78TXPony (Rob) has kindly volunteered to do my carb rebuild/refresh for me, so it's in good hands.

I don't shop AutoZone unless it is a last resort. I have had nothing but bad experiance with them. O'Reilly's Auto Parts, which used to be Schucks here in Idaho, have always done well for me and my dad, which we still have the fuel pump starter and alternator under lifetime warranty under from 1987, and they STILL honor it even though it is in my dad's name.

The only warranty item I have with AutoZone is the rear shocks for my 78 Sedan because O'Reilly's doens't offer any rear shocks for the Pinto Sedan.

must be a state thing. I get better service and parts from my local AZ then I do Orielly's Bap or any other parts store. the guys at napa are especially nasty

I agree. Napa has some nasty customer service but good parts. I will shop them over autozone though. Napa has some great warranties on stuff to!

I have gotten too discussed with Autozone, so I started doing advanced. However, thier customer service here really sucks too! The local car quest is slightly higher on some parts, but they are local and thier service has been majorly great! They even switched the location of the alternator housing and fixed it for me for free! If I have questions, I can call them and they will tell me what to do without any question! Thats major customer service! So they get ALL of my business now if they can get what I want!
