Title: 1975 Pinto Trannie Swap
Post by: DaleFortune on February 23, 2011, 10:43:12 AM
I also posted this in the project section.
I have a 1975 Pinto Wagon that I want to replace the auto trannie with a 5 speed manual trannsmission.  It is a V-6 engine so I'm hoping that a 5 speed from a Ford Ranger will bolt up.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Ranger tranie would be geared like, well, "A TRUCK"!!!! Get one out of a V-6 Mustang. S/B a direct bolt in.

Dale, did you buy that wagon in SoCal? It looks like the one near Palmdale that's been on craigslist for a long time. I wanted it pretty bad, but the guy wanted too much for it. :'(

I did.  He started at $2,500 then came down to $2,000.  He kept dropping the price, I offred him $1,500 cash and he took my offer.  It was a Calif. Wagon all it's life, no rust and except for the standard Pinto coming apart interior it's in great condition but needs a few things: ignition key switch, rear tailgate lock, correct rims and a new headliner. I'm gonna restore it and use real Maple and Mahogany to make it resemble my 1942 Merc Wagon that I've owned since 1977.

Here's a picture also of one that was on Craigslist also, it's up near Centralia Wash.  They wanted $2,500, I offered them $2,000 on the condition that it was as nice as they said: A one owner wagon in excellent condition, runs great and no rust...We drove up to see it, I was really disappointed as it was a rust bucket that had many serious problems.

There is a pretty nice one near Redding Calif. on Craigslist, He'll take $1,500 OBO.

Good for you Dale! I do know the guy that sold you the Squire replaced the transmission. I actually dreamed of having it, then towing Ruby RedHot to Carlisle with it! lol. Sadly, I'm out of room for more cars. That brown wagon's a beaut!

Sounds like you have a vintage travel trailer.  Here's a picture of my 1954 Siesta Trailer. I bought it for $200 28 years ago and I have put over 200K miles on it.  It is so nice I just can't part with it.
14 ft. 1,200 lbs. no brakes and it sleeps 2 adults very nice. The little kitchen table folds down to sleep 2 kids. Has a stove and oven, closet, lots of storage and cabinet space, a 10 gallon water tank with pump and sink, 12volt lights, CD player...did I leave anything out?  I Love It for a home away from home.

Pretty nifty! Actually, I don't have a trailer of any kind. Ruby RedHot is my '71 trunk model Pinto.

I didn't mean to hijack your original thread. I was just amazed that somebody here got that wagon.  I'm guessing you prefer standard trannies...

I was amazed also.... I thought for sure someone would jump on that wagon since it was on Craigslist and a So. Calif. Wagon... I was lucky to get it IMO.  Yes I do like 5 speed trannies plus I what to increase the gas milage with a manual transmission when I pull the travel trailer.  It should work pretty good even with the C-4 auto trannie, but I love shifting gears.
My 1st Pinto I bought new in 1971, it was a trunk model also with all the options.  It was a great car, same color as the wagon in the picture above.  I'll find some pictures and post them.
