I had a job interview in the city today. Waiting for a reply back wether I get a second one or not. Anyways, the site is about a hour away. Between the snow and the boys, I got a tad bit late start out. It was the lobgest ride in Dolly so far, so I was a little aprehensive on the ride. When I stopped to get gas before going out of town, I made note some antifreeze was coming out of the overflow hose. So that made me even more aprehensive. However, she ran 85 no problem and we made time. Got there on time. Checked the fluid and it was not down very far. I filled it yesterday, so maybe it does not need to be filled to the brim? Anyways, she made it back too. Aside from the excesive road noise from the rear of the car, it was a ver enjoyable ride! Cant wait to take her out more! Surprised a how well it handles in the snow. Decent traction on modest accelration. Very nice braking too! One of the best handling cars I have ever owned actually for braking in the snow! Was surprised by the MPGs as it was only about 18MPG's. I was exspecting much more since these cars are supposedly supposed to get nigh on 30. So maybe I need to do some tweeking when it warms up some? But a hour ride with no radio and a bad back. Seat felt very comfortable there and back. I did not gain back pain like I usually do in my van on the same ride! I really enjoyed the ride! I have always been a chevy man. Sorry guys. But...... I am so falling in love qwith this old gal! The only thing I have driven that was more fun (besides a motorcycle) was my old 73 Triumph spitfire. That too was a four banger. Oh I cant wait to get this baby all fixed up to prime time! LOL. Thanks.
it might get better mileage if you keep it down to a normal speed :fastcar:
sounds like it is working out for you
brad :)
I am sure it probably would. I know it was pushing it getting there. Coming back I averaged about between 65 and 70. LOL. Within limits there. LOL.

true, don't fill to the top, as long as you see fluid you are good

at thoes speeds... haha! 18 was good, 4cyl, auto and wagon I wouldn't expect above 24 and only if you are nice to it :o
best I can get out of any of mine is 27mpg and that's in the 1973, 2.0, manual
with my wagon i used to get about 24 then ethenol in the gas and i get about 19
my fins ar just covered in the radiator anything more over flows
good to here she runs that fast 72 is about the fastest i have had mine
AND most import
GOOD LUCK WITH THE JOB
Ive had the 78 up to 85 lol. but thats all she can muster i think
Thank you Phil!! I need it. I await to see if tyhey call me back for the second interview or not! Yup. 85 give or take was all she could must on the flat. 70 going up slight incline. Maybe faster then 85 going down hill, but again, thats where the needle stops so to speak. LOL. Hopefully I dont need to do that again! Stinking snow and stinking boys and thier issues in the morning!
I had a 2.3 Liter with a manual transmission in a brand new 1974 Runabout back in the day and NEVER broke the 20 mpg barrier, no matter how I drove it. My 1972 with the 1.6 Liter will do about 30 mpg on a trip.
Dwayne
In 79 I bought a 71 trunk with a 1600 and drum brakes. It would easily get 27 MPG at 70-75 on the flat. In the mountains 20 was more like it(that little motor loved to work hard :fastcar: ). I miss it.
My 79(bought from the same source 23 years later)gets 24 on a good day, 17 around here. But my attitude toward curves is to attack them then leave them in your wake.
Good luck on your job, tinkerman73!!! Good to hear of another survivor going back to work as well!

I've had my 78 sedan with the 2.3 past 85. the needle stopped moving, but that was back when I had the 2.73 ratio axle and 85 mph was only almost to 4000 RPM. It screamed but it sure pulled! If I were to guess, i was going about 95 at the time.
