Title: decisions decisions
Post by: moses on February 16, 2011, 11:28:03 PM
i have a 72 trunk. 2.0 and 4 speed. I have already fixed the rear qp (was rear ended hard), rebuilt most of the front brakes, and a bunch of interior work. Now the delema... i am pretty sure i just blew the head gasket in my old, tired 2.0. i can get a top end rebuild kit for that, or i have a lead on a turbo 2.3 out of a mid 80s t coupe. but it will need a computer, intercooler and fuel pump at the least. plus, im guessing motor mounts and id prefer a t5. im pressed for time, as i work for uncle sam and work weekdays and some weekends. I dont have a garage to put her in. just a car port and a few tarps to keep most of the rain out (i live in wa state)

i can cut, weld and fabricate to an extent.

now if i go the 2.3, should i keep the efi, or can/should i change to a carb setup to avoid a sever mishap with my lacking electrical skills.

or should i keep my 2.0 in my pinto and use the 2.3 in my vw baja bug?

thanks in advance for all the help, ive been browsing all the threads gathering a ton of useful information and just wanted to get some personal advice for my build.

Im fond of the 2.3 turbo ive had 3 already! An im still on the hunt for more. LOL  If your gunna do the 2.3 leave it Fuel injected its not all that bad of a swap your worste part will be installing the mounts for it.

I'm almost 60 years old and never had a garage.
I've even tubbed a couple of cars and they both drove straight
as an arrow! I don't even have a concrete pad.
You can do it!

now if i go the 2.3 turbo efi, can i just use the stock fuel tank and add an inline electric fuel pump? and whats the best way to do this? im still new to the pccoa and trying to use the search with max results, but my computer took a dump, and i have to use the parents computer every couple days when its not being used.. (or my ipod, but thats a pain to look at a mini screen)
